A frank and microcosmic view of the human condition where the longing for touch and connection is laid waste by the drug like satisfaction acquired through the isolation of sexual anonymity.
Porn Theater (La Chatte à deux têtes) is a somber study of a sector of life few know, an aspect of human sexuality that didnt make it into the Kinsey Report, a part of the underbelly of city life most would rather not accept existed.
Does that mean it should not be examined, should not provide the impetus for an art film? Writer/director and actor Jacques Nolot thinks otherwise.
In this dark little film we are invited into the inner sanctum of a dirty old movie house in Paris that shows only straight pornography for a clientele of men of various types: military men, straight men look for gay sex, married men in need of exploration of their senses, transvestites, old men for whom such places provide the only sexual outlet, and the regulars who spend their evenings in the dingy darkened atmosphere for anonymous sex.
The theater is a theater of life for these people, and the stage manager is the sole female Italian ticket cashier (Vittoria Scognamiglio) who has seen every aspect of sexuality, embraced it, and therefore is wholly non-judgmental.
She converses with her young straight, naive yet curious projectionist (Sébastien Viala) who is attracted to her on several levels, and with one of her regulars (Jacques Nolot), a man of fifty who has been living many years as an HIV Positive man in a responsible way, and he reflects a perverse wisdom acquired through his life experiences. During the course of the film the cashier frankly discuss her open views of sexuality at different levels with both of these men and with a little whiskey nurtures her clear objective to bring the joint wisdom of her and her male counterpart to the younger man through a communal experience that transcends the hollow echo of the darkened theater behind her.
This open view of human behavior is set with the background of the various acts within the theater. We watch transsexuals ply their wares, group encounters of old and young, gay and straight, soldiers and immigrants, husbands and homophobes in bathrooms, in the aisle, in the seats with various odd approaches and rejections for gratification that in the end represent a group of men who find connection to each other as human beings impossible within the dance of quick satisfaction in the dark.
There is considerable frank acting out of encounters that are usually not seen on film and that may be more than some viewers can deal with.
As a writer/director Jacques Nolot has the courage of Genet and Gide and Burroughs et al to tackle this subject matter in a wholly realistic way. The result is a film of social significance, even though it may not be for everyone. It is an art film, very well made, with a brave cast and an even braver writer/director.
To not see this film is to miss some important messages about human sexuality and about human needs too frequently dismissed as non-existent. ~ Grady Harp

Paul Westerberg é uma espécie de Bruce Springsteen punk que esteve à frente de uma formação roqueira das mais influentes dos anos 80, os Replacements. Ele entrou na banda como vocalista e guitarrista nos idos de 1979, aos vinte anos, e só saiu em 1991, quando teve que apagar a luz do quartinho. O que o Replacements fez ao longo da década de 1980, ao lado de pioneiros da mesma Minneapolis natal, o Hüsker Dü, foi definir a sonoridade pop-punk que seria ponto de partida para muitas bandas vindouras, de Pixies a REM. Ao lado de Black Flag e Dead Kennedys, Replacements e Husker Dü levaram o punk americano ao longo de uma caminhada tortuosa nos anos 80. Claro, não é preciso mencionar os Ramones nisso tudo. Desde 1993 em carreira solo, Paul tornou-se um sábio e interessante artista jovem que não quer envelhecer. Teima em aprontar rock’n’roll estiloso e básico, bebendo nas fontes de Alex Chilton (Big Star), Rolling Stones, Ramones, Bob Dylan, entre outros.
Gravado em Minneapolis, quintal de casa de Westerberg, Stereo/Mono traz o artista em dois momentos distintos. Stereo traz baladas predominantemente acústicas, quase como se mostrasse seu lado songwriter, enquanto Mono traz Westerberg garageiro, com seu lado roqueiro a flor da pele. Como já é característico do artista, as letras falam de paixões mal-terminadas ou nunca alcançadas, na busca pela mulher ideal que não deixe um rastro de corações
